Welcome to Metroidvanians Blogspot - Place where we discuss all things Metroidvania

Metroidvania is a subgenre of video games I've had interest in for a really long time. The design principle has its root all the way back in the 80s with the release of Metroid on Nintendo Entertainment Sytem, but the term wouldn't be coin until after the release of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on Playstation in 1997.

Over time, the term spreads, and become widely known among gaming communities especially during the 2000's where there is a resurgent of games developed in this genre.

Since the 80s, video game industry has spread its wings and benefit from tremendous growth. An industry that was once thought of as a niche source of entertainment has turned itself into billions dollar industry.

Despite how big gaming industry has become, there is surprisingly not a lot written about, Metroidvania, this awesome video game's subgenre that seems to be forgotten by large gaming publishers.

Metroidvania's emphasis on 'exploration' resonates very much with many players. These game succeed in creating incredible gratification when players uncover the map for the first time and begin to learn how the interconnected layout stick together, creating a cohesive and believable world.

From the pioneer of the genre like Nintendo's Metroid titles in the 80s and 90s and Igarashi's Castlevania titles in the 90s and 00s, all the way to this year's Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, and SteamWorld Dig 2. This genre has never stopped evolving.

And so, this blog is created with one simple goal to celebrate and cherish this uncelebrated gaming subgenre.
